From a university class project to 1,000+ teams & organizations
GameStrat started as a class project at the University of Ottawa in the fall of 2014, when co-founders Tunch Akkaya and Elijah Wu were in the same engineering program and Tunch was playing DB on the football team. That year, he found out his head coach was sending still photos from the press box down to an iPad on the sideline using iMessage and email, and they figured they could build something better than that. The following summer, they got into a grant program in Ottawa called Startup Garage, and that was the catalyst that pushed them to take GameStrat seriously as a business. That fall, Tunch's football team at the University of Ottawa became the first ever team to use it in live games.
That season, the team was making real-time adjustments between series and it actually worked. GameStrat launched video replay in 2017, and those first 10 teams honestly felt like 1,000. Every game, coaches were calling in with bugs nobody had ever seen before, and Tunch and Elijah were just figuring it out as they went. Games on Saturday, support calls without answers, recreate the bugs on Sunday, Elijah fixing them immediately, push new builds by Wednesday, and hope it all holds together for the next game. After a few weeks, the calls just stopped, and that is when they knew they were on to something.

We answer the phone when it matters most.
On Thursday nights, Friday nights, and Saturdays during football season, our team is live on a shared Zoom and backing each other up in real-time. They know the rhythm of a game, they know a call at 6:45pm means kickoff is minutes away, and they know what it sounds like when the national anthem is playing in the background and there are five minutes to fix it.
Outside of game days, we are available during regular business hours year-round, so if something comes up, we are here.
Week 1 of the 2024 season. An FCS program using GameStrat for the very first time called in 10 minutes before kickoff with no video signal in the end zone. One of our team members got the video coordinator in the press box and the student manager in the end zone on the same Zoom call, walked them both through the fix simultaneously, and had them running smoothly before the opening whistle. They worked flawlessly all game.
