Rockwall Football Leverages GameStrat In-Game Video Replay System
2024 marked the first year that in-game video replay technology was approved for high school football in Texas. For programs like Rockwall High School, the introduction of in-game replay offered a new way to analyze and adjust during games. Head Football Coach and Athletic Coordinator Trey Brooks wasted no time in implementing GameStrat to help his team navigate the challenges of the season.
Rockwall finished the year with a 6-6 record, advancing to the second round of the playoffs. Despite being underdogs in the first round, they secured a big win against a 9-1 opponent, marking their 13th consecutive year with a playoff victory—a streak that has become a point of pride for the program. This consistency is a far cry from the 23 years the school endured without a playoff win before their current streak began.
We spoke with Coach Brooks about how GameStrat’s in-game video replay system helped the Rockwall Yellowjackets maintain their high standards and adapt in key moments throughout the season.

When asked about GameStrat’s impact on the program, Coach Brooks reflected on how quickly the system made a difference:
We really saw an immediate impact with GameStrat. I remember specifically in our very first game, there was something on the end zone angle we caught at halftime that we needed to adjust. That ability to see and make changes right away was a game-changer for us.
This kind of instant feedback allowed Rockwall to quickly adjust and get on the right track, ensuring that key adjustments weren’t delayed until after the final whistle.
Before implementing in-game video, most adjustments were based on observations from coaches or players, often relying on quick communication in between plays or series. GameStrat changed that process entirely.
With GameStrat, there’s no more guesswork. We used to try and piece together what we thought was happening. Now, we can see exactly what’s going on, series by series, and make adjustments with confidence.

It’s been huge for us—offensively, understanding how defenses are lining up, and defensively, seeing what offenses are trying to do against us. That immediate feedback makes a world of difference.
Introducing new technology like in-game video replay can sometimes feel overwhelming, but Coach Brooks emphasized how seamless the onboarding process was with GameStrat:
There’s always that concern—can we figure it out, and can we actually use it during a game? But GameStrat made it easy. The tutorials, the setup process, and the responsiveness of their team all made a big difference. Anytime we had a question, we got an answer right away.

He also shared how his staff’s initial introduction to the system at the THSCA convention solidified their decision:
The GameStrat team took the time to sit down with our entire staff and walk us through the process. By the end of that meeting, we all felt confident that this was something we could use effectively.
Reflecting on the first year of in-game video replay in Texas, Coach Brooks noted how GameStrat has already changed the landscape of high school football:
You have to be able to adjust in football, and GameStrat gives you more ability to do that. It’s up to us as coaches to use the information, but GameStrat provides that clear picture we need. It’s changed the game quite a bit.

With their 13th consecutive playoff win and a proud tradition of success, Rockwall High School is a program that continues to thrive. GameStrat is honored to play a small role in their journey, providing them with tools to be a step ahead of their competition on game days.
GameStrat was easier to use than I expected, and it's been a big benefit for us. We're excited to keep using it moving forward.
