University of New Brunswick Reds, NB - USports Case Study

The University of New Brunswick (UNB) Reds have had an unparalleled season, finishing with a perfect 43-0 record, claiming the AUS Division Championship for the 20th time in program history, and securing back-to-back USports National Championships (marking a historical 10th Championship win for the franchise). A key factor behind their dominance has been their integration of GameStrat, a cutting-edge video analysis software.

We had the opportunity to record an interview with William Healey, the Director of Operations and Video Coach for the Reds, to gain insight into the Reds' experience using GameStrat for live to bench replay. Healey opened with comments on GameStrat's user-friendly interface and exceptional support.

GameStrat has played a pivotal role in the Reds' game-day strategy. The team utilizes multiple iPads on the bench to quickly access and analyze game footage during play.

Having the iPads on the bench has been invaluable for reviewing plays quickly and making adjustments during intermissions.

GameStrat's features have significantly enhanced the Reds' coaching and player development. Boasting many useful features, the playlist feature is one that UNB utilized most frequently. This feature allows coaches to organize and share specific clips, while the live tagging functionality enables real-time analysis during games.

These tools have been crucial for providing immediate feedback to players and making informed strategic decisions.

Integrating any new form of technology within a team can be challenging at times, but Healey was quick to highlight the ease of transition when it came to implementing the GameStrat system - reflecting back to when the team first signed on to use the live to bench replay system.

Despite initial concerns about the technological switch, GameStrat's reliability and performance exceeded our expectations. The support team was always available to assist us with any issues, ensuring a smooth integration from day one.

The UNB Reds' back-to-back championship wins are a testament to their high levels of talent and dedication. However, the integration of GameStrat has undoubtedly played a significant role in their success, providing the team with a powerful tool for analysis, coaching, and player development.
