Mount Union Football Switch to GameStrat for In-Game Video Replay
The University of Mount Union Football program have long been a dominant force in NCAA Division III football. Competing in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC), the Purple Raiders have built a storied history of success, consistently competing at the highest level.
Under Head Coach Geoff Dartt, who took over ahead of the 2020 season, Mount Union has continued its dominance. In just five seasons, Coach Dartt has led the program to an incredible 56-4 record, securing the OAC Championship every year and making two national championship appearances in 2022 and 2024. While they fell just short of the title in those seasons, there’s no doubt that Mount Union remains a powerhouse in Division III football.
With in-game video replay being allowed for the first time at the NCAA level in 2024, Mount Union knew they needed a reliable and efficient replay system to help them maintain their competitive edge. To start the season, they initially went with Hudl Sideline but constantly ran into issues that disrupted their workflow. Seeking a more dependable solution, they made the switch to GameStrat midway through the season—a decision that immediately paid off.
GameStrat was an easy-to-use system. It allowed us to make critical decisions and adjustments during games. I would absolutely recommend GameStrat to any football program.

To gain deeper insight into how GameStrat impacted Mount Union’s success, we sat down with Offensive Assistant Coach Corey Unckrich, who played a key role in integrating GameStrat into their workflow.
For Mount Union, the ability to analyze plays in real-time was crucial in their run to the national championship game. With GameStrat, they no longer had to second-guess what happened on the field.
GameStrat made it easier for us to make those adjustments. We weren’t second-guessing what happened. We had a clear picture immediately after the play and could make corrections in real-time.

While Mount Union started the year using Hudl Sideline, constant issues forced them to make a mid-season switch—a decision that proved to be a game-changer. We asked Coach Unckrich how much of an advantage they’d have if they were playing a team using anything other than GameStrat.
It’d be a huge advantage. We know because we switched halfway through the season from Hudl Sideline after it gave us all kinds of issues. GameStrat was a big difference maker.

One of the biggest frustrations with Hudl Sideline that we've heard from the high school level for the last decade is that their in-game video technology is treated like an afterthought. When issues arise, teams are often left scrambling, unable to get help until long after the game is over. That’s where GameStrat sets itself apart. Our dedicated, in-house support team are experts with everything to do with in-game video technology, ensuring that our teams get the help they need, especially on game day when they need it most.
Mount Union experienced this firsthand when they made the mid-season switch from Hudl Sideline to GameStrat.
The biggest difference between Hudl Sideline & GameStrat was customer support. Right when we switched, your support team was in constant contact with us, helping get us set up. One time we called right before kickoff, and you guys answered right away, whereas we did not have nearly that same level of support from Hudl.
Switching to a new in-game video replay system mid-season can seem like a daunting task. With limited time to learn a new platform, coaches need a system that is intuitive, easy to set up, and reliable from the start. That’s exactly what Mount Union found in GameStrat.
With step-by-step onboarding resources, detailed instructional videos, and ongoing support, the transition was quick and hassle-free, allowing the team to immediately integrate GameStrat into their game-day routine.
The onboarding process was very easy because GameStrat is so user-friendly. The videos you guys provided were amazing, very detailed & straightforward.

After experiencing firsthand the impact of GameStrat, Mount Union plans to integrate it even further next season—starting with spring practices.
We will definitely be making use of it in spring practices. We’re just excited to be able to use GameStrat for an entire season this coming season. Overall we were very pleased with our experience.
GameStrat is proud to have supported Mount Union in their 2024 season, and we look forward to being part of their continued success. Interested in learning more? Book a free demo below & see how GameStrat can impact your program!
