Texas High School Football Embraces In-Game Video Replay: A Look at Year One

The 2024 Texas high school football season marked a pivotal moment in the sport’s history. For the first time, in-game video replay was allowed, giving teams a powerful new tool to analyze and adjust strategies during games. After years of anticipation and debate, the first season with this technology has officially concluded—and it’s clear the impact was substantial.

A Smooth Transition with Promising Results

The first year of implementing in-game video replay in Texas high school football exceeded expectations. While some teams were initially hesitant, unsure of how the technology would fit into their game-day operations, the results have been overwhelmingly positive. Many of those hesitant programs have since expressed strong interest in adopting the technology, seeing the advantages it brings to teams that used it successfully this season.

One of the most notable aspects of the Texas University Interscholastic League (UIL) regulations is that replay footage was accessible only to coaches in the press box and in locker rooms at halftime—not directly on the sidelines. Despite this limitation, coaches took full advantage of the new tool, reviewing critical plays and identifying adjustments in real time. The success of the first season has set the stage for more widespread adoption in the years to come.

We really saw an immediate impact with GameStrat, there’s no more guesswork. That ability to see and make changes right away was a game-changer for us.

  • Southwestern University (Division III)
  • Hardin-Simmons University (Division III)

These partnerships highlight GameStrat’s versatility and reliability, making it the preferred choice for football programs across all levels of competition.

Plays are on the iPad seconds after they happen. That information is huge for playcallers and anyone making adjustments.
