Basha HS (AZ) Case Study

Basha High School has established itself as one of the top football programs in Arizona. Under Head Coach Chris McDonald, the program has built a reputation for consistency, discipline, and high-level performance in Arizona's highest classification.

That standard was on full display in 2025 when Basha finished as the #1 team in Arizona, ranked #27 in the country, and captured the Open Division State Championship with a dominant 34–7 win over Chandler.

At a program operating at that level, every detail matters. That includes having tools on the sideline that perform just as consistently as the team.

A Standard of Excellence That Required More

Basha holds itself to a high standard across every part of the program. When it came to in-game video, Hudl Sideline was just not meeting that standard. There were consistent issues, and it became something the staff had to deal with every week.

For a program focused on competing at the highest level, that was not sustainable. They knew they needed something more reliable.

Learning From Other Top Programs

We had the chance to speak with the Bears' Assistant Offensive Line Coach Brandon Babcock on their experience switching to GameStrat. He stated that as Basha started looking at alternatives, they turned to programs they trusted.

Top teams in the state like Chandler and Saguaro were already using GameStrat. The feedback was consistent, and once Basha had the chance to see the system themselves, the decision was clear.

We were exploring alternatives from Hudl Sideline and saw that several top programs in our district were already using GameStrat. We asked around and got a bunch of great reviews and after seeing the system ourselves it became a no brainer.Assistant Offensive Line Coach Brandon Babcock, Basha HS

A System That Delivers at a Championship Level

We started off by asking Coach Babcock what he thought about their experience using GameStrat over the last two years, especially compared to the systems they had used in the past.

It’s the best system hands down. Especially with the new custom tagging update, there’s no other system doing the things you guys do. The reliability, speed, and support staff is all top notch. Once you see the difference, it’s a no brainer.Assistant Offensive Line Coach Brandon Babcock, Basha HS

That combination of reliability, speed, and support is exactly what Basha needed to match the level they operate at every week.

Immediate Impact on the Field

From the start, the difference from their previous system was clear.

It’s been amazing. It’s a night and day difference from Hudl Sideline. Easy to set up, it’s super reliable and the support staff has been great any time we needed it.Assistant Offensive Line Coach Brandon Babcock, Basha HS

GameStrat gave the staff confidence that the system would work when they needed it most. They no longer had to worry about delays or disconnections. That allowed them to focus fully on coaching and making adjustments during the game.

Coach Babcock also made it clear how much of an impact that had on their run to an Open Division State Championship season.

It’s helped us become champions. We wouldn’t be where we are without it.Assistant Offensive Line Coach Brandon Babcock, Basha HS

Faster Clips. Better Decisions.

Speed plays a direct role in how effective in-game video can be.

We asked Coach Babcock to compare the speed of clips reaching the iPads with GameStrat versus what they experienced with Hudl Sideline, and the difference was significant.

With GameStrat it’s instantaneous. As soon as you stop the recording, clips are on the iPads. It wasn’t nearly as fast with Hudl Sideline.Assistant Offensive Line Coach Brandon Babcock, Basha HS

That speed allows coaches to review plays immediately and make adjustments while the game is still unfolding.

Support That Shows Up Every Week

Another major difference for Basha was the level of support they were able to receive.

With GameStrat, support is handled in-house by people who understand football and the urgency of game day. When a team calls, a real person picks up right away.

Support has been fantastic. Always checking in with us every week, making sure things are going good. Any time we’ve had to call the last 2 years, you guys picked up the phone right away and helped us.Assistant Offensive Line Coach Brandon Babcock, Basha HS

That consistency gives coaches peace of mind knowing they are never going to be left out to dry on Friday night.

A Complete Upgrade

For Basha, the difference between systems was significant.

You guys have been a night and day difference from Hudl Sideline. It’s not even a comparison, it’s been a complete upgrade.Assistant Offensive Line Coach Brandon Babcock, Basha HS

When a program with championship expectations finds something that works at that level, the impact is clear.
